20 percent of our luggage on vacation was full of books. I had a girlfriend send me a care package at the beach-it was full of books. And a bookmark. I’ll estimate that I read at least 12 books on vacation. There’s reading at the pool, there’s reading in the pool, there’s reading at the beach, there’s reading on the couch in the afternoon before a nap, there’s also reading, albeit brief, before bed at night.
I’m not alone in this, my Beach Sister also reads a ton while on vacation. We read enough this year that our husbands started calling us The Librarians. I’m ok with that. Totally ok.
And there’s pressure on vacation. Pressure to stay up past 11 o’clock. If I stay up past 11 pm I feel like I just crossed the finish line with a new PR. DD is a total and complete night owl. He can get as little as 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night. And he can do this for days on end. Then he needs a “reset” and will sleep for eleven hours straight.
It’s vacation. He wants to stay up late. He wants to have fun. And stay up late.
Anyway, beach vacation is a time to relax, have cocktails, hang out on the deck and look at the stars. And to look at the stars, one must be awake past at least 9 pm. So, when I say there’s pressure, it’s just enough pressure to stay up past 10 pm.
Beach Sister and I are both on sofas at opposite ends of the room and we are reading. Reading. And it’s 9 pm. I don’t know about you but I fall asleep when I am reclining and reading and it’s past 9 pm. I can hold on until around 10 pm. And then it’s lights out. And the Library is closed.
Yep. That’s what our husbands started to say, “The Library closes at 10:15”
Well, at least if the Library is closed then the pressure is off. Because I’m asleep.
